21 JUL 2026 Hi Reader, Most of us are carrying something we keep wanting - or meaning - to start. The business, the side project, the piece of work that would finally be ours. It stalls for one honest reason: we're waiting to feel ready, yet readiness never announces itself. This week is about beginning it, small. Not the whole thing, the first real piece of it. As you build something, it builds you back, and the building only starts once something leaves your head and meets the world. MindThe plan in your head is always cleaner than the thing in the world, and it teaches you nothing. Contact with reality is what actually moves it forward. Your first offer is a question, and the market's answer is the only research that counts.
SkillsWhatever you're carrying, there's a version of it small enough to ship in the next few days. Ugly and tested beats beautiful and assumed, every time.
SoulWho you are gets forged in the creating, one started thing at a time. Every time you release something before you feel certain, you build a little more nerve, and the winding line of started-and-adjusted things turns out to be the path rather than a detour from it.
Build thisEach week I'll take something that's quietly broken and hand you one idea you could actually build in answer to it. This week, the supermarket. In Australia, two chains own most of the trolley. Growers get squeezed at one end, shoppers at the other, and most of us carry a love/hate relationship with the weekly shop. There's room beside that for something smaller and more human. One startable version is a neighbourhood produce run. You coordinate a weekly order from a local farm or grower's market for your street or building, collect from your garage, and either take a small margin (profit) or run it close to cost to bring good food nearer (purpose).
Hit reply and tell me the thing you're going to start. I read every one. As always, Good things come to those who make. Grow forth, |
Faster Zebra is an education company for people building ventures, brands and ideas. Practical kits and an intergenerational community across three realms of you: Mind, Skills and Soul. As you build something, it builds you back.
25 AUG 2026 Hi Reader, Someone asks what you're building, and you hear yourself give the long answer. Three sentences in you're explaining the category, then the exception to the category, then what it's a bit like. They nod politely. You walk away knowing the answer exists somewhere in your head, just nowhere near the room when it counted. This week is about saying what you're building in words that land the first time. Clear description is part of the build, because every conversation is a...
20 AUG 2026 Hi Reader, Yesterday I spent an hour on a call with a teacher from an alternative school in South Australia. She works with 17 to 24 year olds who've come back to education after school didn't work out the first time. Twenty years in the job. She'd bought a few of the Kits and was reading them at night between shifts. About fifteen minutes in, she said the thing I've been circling for two years, and said it better than I do. "Young people are bombarded with content. Bombarded with...
18 AUG 2026 Hi Reader, You ship the thing you worked on for weeks, and instead of the lift you expected, there's a strange flatness. The launch lands, the messages slow, the room goes quiet. You brace for elation and get a dip, and it can leave you quietly wondering whether the whole thing was worth it. This week is about the drop that follows a launch, and what to do with it while it's fresh. The flatness is your system coming down off a spike, not a sign you built the wrong thing, and it...
