What the post-launch drop is telling you

18 AUG 2026

Hi Reader,

You ship the thing you worked on for weeks, and instead of the lift you expected, there's a strange flatness. The launch lands, the messages slow, the room goes quiet. You brace for elation and get a dip, and it can leave you quietly wondering whether the whole thing was worth it.

This week is about the drop that follows a launch, and what to do with it while it's fresh. The flatness is your system coming down off a spike, not a sign you built the wrong thing, and it carries useful information if you read it. As you build something, it builds you back, and how you handle the quiet after the noise is a bigger part of the build than launch day itself.

Mind

The drop feels like a verdict on the work, and it rarely is. You predicted one feeling and got another, and that gap is worth reading rather than trusting. Most of the flatness is the come-down from the peak, not the market handing you a result. Notice where your attention drifts in the quiet, because energy reveals direction, and the thing you keep thinking about next is often the next thing to build.

  • Ask yourself: is this flatness telling me something important about the work, or is it just the come-down from the spike?
  • Notice what your attention keeps returning to this week. That pull is data about what to build next.

Skills

The fastest way through the drop is a small next move made before the feeling fades. Right after a launch you're holding more real information than you'll have all quarter: who bought, who hesitated, what they said, what they ignored. Capture it while it's warm, then turn it into one small step so the momentum has somewhere to go rather than leaking into the flatness.

  • Before the week is out, write down what the launch actually taught you: who responded, who didn't, and the one thing you'd change.
  • Line up the smallest next move now, a follow-up, a tweak, a conversation, so there's a next contact with reality booked before the quiet sets in.

Soul

Anyone can ride the high of a launch. The one you're becoming is the person who keeps building through the flat stretch that follows. Recovery is part of the build, not a detour from it, and working in the quiet without the applause is a nerve you build once and keep. Read both mirrors once the noise dies down: what you make of the launch, and what it actually did for the people it was for.

  • Ask: who do I become if I keep building through the flat stretch, instead of waiting for the next high to carry me?
  • Read both mirrors: write one line on what you make of the launch, and one on what it did for someone real.

Build this

Each week I take something that's quietly broken and hand you one idea you could build in answer to it. This week, the tyranny of the spike.

So much of building runs on big moments: the launch, the campaign, the quarter that has to show a result. We organise everything around these peaks, and the drop you feel afterwards is partly built into that shape. Boom, then bust, then scramble for the next boom. A steadier rhythm beside the spikes softens the fall and smooths the income.

One startable version is a recurring offer. Take something you already do as a one-off and turn it into a small monthly version: a membership, a retainer, a maintenance plan, a subscription to the thing people usually buy once. One clear promise, delivered on a steady beat, paid on a steady beat. Run it at cost for a community you care about (purpose), or price it to build a base of predictable income that carries you between the big launches (profit). The reward is a business that doesn't live or die on the next spike.

  • Start it this week: take one thing you sell once, sketch the monthly version of it in three lines, and offer it to three existing customers.

Hit reply and tell me what you've just launched, or what you're about to. I read every one.

As always, Good things come to those who make.

Grow forth,
Charbel

25 AUG 2026 Hi Reader, Someone asks what you're building, and you hear yourself give the long answer. Three sentences in you're explaining the category, then the exception to the category, then what it's a bit like. They nod politely. You walk away knowing the answer exists somewhere in your head, just nowhere near the room when it counted. This week is about saying what you're building in words that land the first time. Clear description is part of the build, because every conversation is a...

20 AUG 2026 Hi Reader, Yesterday I spent an hour on a call with a teacher from an alternative school in South Australia. She works with 17 to 24 year olds who've come back to education after school didn't work out the first time. Twenty years in the job. She'd bought a few of the Kits and was reading them at night between shifts. About fifteen minutes in, she said the thing I've been circling for two years, and said it better than I do. "Young people are bombarded with content. Bombarded with...

11 AUG 2026 Hi Reader, Somewhere on your desk is a thing that's nearly done. The site that needs one more pass, the offer you keep refining, the product you'll launch once a last detail is right. It's at ninety per cent, and ninety per cent is where good work quietly goes to die. The polishing feels like diligence, and a lot of the time it's fear wearing a respectable coat. This week is about knowing when a thing is good enough, and letting it be seen at that point instead of one imagined...
